Basic Subsidy
There is a fortnightly Basic Subsidy per child. The following amounts are current as at January 2011:

These amounts are only payable when you have a child in your care. They are not taxable and do not effect pensions.
The basic subsidy covers costs for caring for a child such as:
- Food and shelter.
- Electricity, water, heating and gas.
- Toiletries.
- Haircuts.
- Small toys.
- Local transport.
- Basic general medical treatment and pharmaceutical requirements - non-prescriptive.
- Incidental expenses for education, leisure and hobby activities, eg extra pencils.
- Household cleaning products concerning the child.
Pocket Money
Children who are in the CEO's care receive pocket money. Pocket money is in addition to the basic subsidy but not differentiated on the pay advice
6 to 12 years $8.00 per fortnight
13 to 15 years $20.00 per fortnight
In some circumstances children aged 16 to 18 years may receive pocket money. However children aged 16 and over are encouraged to access Centrelink benefits.
Children who are in the CEO's care and receive Austudy or Abstudy do not receive pocket money.
Clothing Allowance
This allowance is provided to children in the CEO's care. For other children this allowance needs to be requested by the foster parent and endorsed by case plan.

Educational costs and uniforms are met by the Department for Child Protection or agency.
